Feedback from the Internet

Over the past week over 70,000 people have read Ward Churchill's
essay "Some People Push Back" on my website.
Several people have sent me emails commenting on Churchill's essay,
on my site, on how they see things.
Many people may not be aware of what others are saying and thinking
about this, so in the interests of letting people know i've decided to upload
the mail i have received. I have removed people's names to protect their
identity.
WARNING: Some intelligent people have written
me, but by and large most of the emails i received were from idiots and cretins.
Their views are extreme, violent, and vulgar, and certainly are not shared
by myself. Scroll down to
read their emails, or just click on the link below if you do not want to.
Reading your essay, "Some People Push Back,"it occurred to me that
your write about being wrong about a lot of things. It's not just
Americans. It's man. History records the same story over and
over again. The strong victimize and oppress the weak. Even
in the native American culture, competing tribes raided one anothers' villages
killing their victims in combat and starvation that ensuing by the victors
plundering the vanquished food stores. It's not going to change.
Hi there American hating shitheads....
And happy days from an Imperialist Pig (one of the people that Ward Churchill
calls having an attention span of 15 minutes)......
Isn't it great that we have in our midst a genious like ol' Churchill to
tells everyone how stupid and uninformed all of us are (especially the white
race) when it comes to our own crimes against humanity and that the attack
on 9/11 wasn't nearly enough retribution for centuries of crimes against
other nations.
It's a very good thing that those statements were made here and about us,
for if he made them in one of the poor countries where we've killed millions
of poor innocent people.......his throat would have been slit and head
would
have been cut off. End of story.
Hey fuck for brains.....Wardo....if you hate this country so damn much why
don't you move to Iraq or the Gaza Strip and help all those poor people that
you say we're hurting and killing and starving and maiming and terrorizing?
Seems to me that you've made yourself quite wealthy with authoring books
and essays speaking engagements not to mention your teaching position.....would
I be wrong to say that you've etched out a pretty good living doing what
you do (spewing hate propaganda in my opinion).
Gee, but wait.......aquiring personal wealth through selling books and essays
and teaching......isn't that called.......ah.....CAPITALISM?
What a fucking lying stupid hipocrit.......what an asshole!
If you dispise the way things are done in this country, and capitalism is
a big part of how things are done....why don't you provide your services
for nothing?
I know why......
Because just like all the Michael Moores of this country who exploit and
muddy the facts about corporate CEO's, the military, big business and how
the little guy is always screwed, you take your millions earned off this
bullshit machine of yours and happily scamper to the confines of some mansion
overlooking some valley where you can look down on all the little people
you proclaim to be one of. The King over all he surveys.
Yes, I can see why some impressionable young, as well as some disenfranchised
older people believe your message of hate against this country. You hit them
when they are at their weakest....when they are the most vulnerable to accept
anything as the explanation of why their lives might be miserable at this
time. Blame someone else, blame the government, blame George
W
blame capitalism, blame the horrible country of America......the same
country that defends the right of free speech where even a hate spewing,
worthless pile of shit like yourself can make tons of money off the very
system he so dispises.
The strongest reason I needed to send this was where you proclaimed that
the 9/11 victums deserved to die for they were part of this great corporate
monstor that fueled the fire of America's insatiable appetite of invoking
it's power around the world. I challenge you to invite all the relatives
and friends of those people to one of your bolshevick ralleys and tell that
to each and everyone
of them face to face. But of course you won't......because you are
a coward, and
a phoney and much less than a human being. Calling you a sick animal
would would be a discrace to any living beast on this earth.
Finally, Wardo, my hope for you is to someday find yourself in
the friendly company of your fondly referred to "combat unit" (normal people
call them murdering terrorist thugs, by the way) and in the middle of telling
them how much you admire their bravery, civility and charm...........................................they
blow your head clean off.
Here's to you fuckhead.....
Happy Days, ____ _________
Professor Campos,
Wish it wasn't just a dream ...
Thank God yours is a voice of reason from the ridiculous Republic of
Boulder, my former place of residency for nearly 10 years. I'm a CU-Boulder
alumnus (School of Journalism '84), and am, to say the least, having a difficult
time stomaching the fact that a professor at my beloved alma mater has written
the callous, mean-spirited essay "Some People Push Back" On the Justice of
Roosting Chickens (posted at http://www.kersplebedeb.com/mystuff/s11/churchill.html),
then this evening I saw your interview by Bill O'Reilly on the Fox News Channel,
Professor Campos, and read your Rocky Mountain News column online
Kudos to you on your comments! I was serving with the U.S. Navy as Deputy
Director of Public Affairs for Joint Task Force-Southwest Asia in support
of Operation Southern Watch in 1997, and had been in Saudi Arabia for about
two weeks when Saddam Hussein first kicked the UN weapons inspectors out
of Iraq. We came dangerously close to having an all-out war with Iraq. I
didn't want to go to war at the time (we had only 18,000 troops in the region),
but in retrospect, we probably should have. At the very least, the world
should have put its collective foot down, and forced Saddam to comply with
UN resolutions which required Iraq to submit to weapons inspections (and
a whole slew of other resolutions). Instead, the Clinton Administration played
ostrich, fearing the consequences of a "Wag the Dog War" in the wake of the
Monica Lewinsky scandal, and did not effectively deal with Saddam's idiocy,
despite the backing of a number of UN resolutions. I could write books about
that whole situation. I witnessed it firsthand. I would personally have been
affected by such a war. The war didn't happen in 1997. We had somewhat of
a buildup in the region, Clinton lobbed a few missiles at Iraqi targets during
Operation Desert Fox in 1998, and the world went back to sleep regarding
Iraq ... not doing a thing about Saddam ... until President George W. Bush
cured the world of its collective amnesia. Now, thankfully, Saddam will no
longer be able to threaten the world, his neighbors, nor his own people.
I doubt former Ethnic Studies Chairman Ward Churchill has any personal involvement
in any of this. He -- like many of those who try to blame the U.S. for the
world's problems -- is still asleep. The backlash (yes, we too can push back)
he's feeling today must feel like a bit of a wakeup call, though. He forgets
that Saddam started this madness when he invaded Kuwait. He forgets that
Saddam had conducted his own genocide. Ask the Kurds. Ask the families of
those thousands buried in mass graves throughout Iraq. The 1991 bombings
he blames for justifying 9-11 were part of Operation Desert Storm -- the
successful effort to get the Iraqi military out of Kuwait and to ensure Saddam
would never attack his neighbors again. The modern U.S. military has terrible
weapons at its disposal. We have, however, taken greater pains to ensure
that civilians are not killed than any force in the history of the world.
I have friends currently serving in Iraq and other nations in Southwest Asia.
As a Naval Reservist for more than 10 years, I have personally been fighting
the Global War on Terrorism all that time, whether I knew it or not. I have
to agree with Churchill on at least two points. The terrorists have been
fighting the United States and the West for a lot longer than we give them
credit. And, Americans have been asleep ("getting 'Jeremy' and 'Ellington'
to their weekly soccer game) -- but not to the plight of the Iraqi children.
(For that matter, I don't see Mr. Churchill doing anything to help the Iraqi
children even now, but my colleagues in the military are -- even as I write
this.) We were, however, long asleep to the dangers of terrorism and our
reaction (or lack thereof) to it. I understand some of those at Hamilton
College, where Churchill is scheduled to speak, may have family members of
the victims of 9-11. I wonder how they, especially the victims in the World
Trade Center and the plane which crashed in Pennsylvania, feel about his
viewpoints that these "civilians of a sort" were not innocent (he has the
gall to call them "little Eichmanns"). The World Trade Center did not contain
only Americans: they came from across the globe. They had every color of
skin seen on the planet. They were not just the children of pampered soccer
moms. That's why it was called the "World Trade Center"! I know how the associates
of the Pentagon victims feel. (I work with them.) How would Mr. Churchill
feel if someone said his people, the Cherokees, who were forced to move in
the Trail of Tears were "civilians of a sort," that the victims of Wounded
Knee were "fanatics," or that those massacred at Sand Creek were "guerillas."
The victims of 9-11 were just as innocent as those American Indians. I am
somewhat heartened to hear that Mr. Churchill has resigned his chairmanship
of the Ethnic Studies Department. CU officials: I still may return my diploma
if you do not revoke Churchill's tenure.

Churchill is the most backward, American hating, piece of slime that I have
ever heard of.
He can't wait to see millions of Americans die by the hands of terrorists
so that he can dance in the street along side of the animals who wish the
end of the U.S.A.
I sincerely hope Ward goes to the Mid-East to hang out with his terrorist
buddies. Hopefully one of those animals will behead him and show it
on Al-jazeera.
Having attended CU-Boulder in the early 90s and still currently living in
Colorado, the national outrage over the carefully-aired "essay-bites" from
Ward Churchill's piece demanded my attention. I'm so glad that when
I googled the title, your site appeared as offering the full text for me
to read at my leisure, and also that you offer Churchill's recent rebuttal
to his critics. While I don't agree with everything he wrote, it sure
made interesting reading and put the current national fury in perspective.
Food for thought, anyway, and isn't that what great teachers should offer...?

Motherfucker
You son of a bitch, I hope you rot in hell where you fuckin belong!
Your ideas are so out of whack with America. You have just greatly empowered
what you so despise...
I'm glad I could read what the fellow had to say in his own write, as John
Lennon put it. Thanks for posting it. I genuinely don't understand its point,
however.
If the purpose of political writing is to persuade -as opposed to literature,
where the purpose is to express one's self- then Prof. Churchill's effort
is perhaps the least effective essay I can ever remember reading. He has
not a single good word for anyone in America, his presumed audience. Its
attitude recalls the way an excessively strict and clueless father would
react when his son gets busted for dope and the cops beat him up and toss
him into a cell with a bunch of convicted sex criminals, "Whaddya expect?
You had it coming, buster!" Sure, there's a gruff kind of macho pleasure
taken in the no-good rotten kid's comeuppance, but if you want to reach
your son, that's about the dumbest possible thing you could say.
Since I simply cannot imagine anyone reading Churchill's piece and saying,
"y'know, that guy's nailed the problem! To the ramparts!" I am simply
puzzled as to what he expected to come from it. Expressing his opinion is
hardly a sensible reason to write about politics. Don't get me wrong:
If Prof. Churchill wants to express himself, by all means no one has the
right to deny him that, in any way he deems fit. But if he wants to persuade
people, and change a profoundly immoral American policy, which is I believe
his life's work, then man oh man he really oughta get a grip.
Because this essay, sympathetic to no one and nothing but his own (undisputed
by me) right to express outrage at everyone, sure as hell ain't the way
to do it.

I feel very much compelled to send this to you...
There is some merit in your message. But in many ways you are
warring against God and His Son Jesus Christ.
Think about this: God tells us that one day every knee shall
bow before Him. Some in adoration and love. Some in bitterness
and fear.
Our choices in this life have eternal consequences. Eternal consequences.
God also tells us that He wants all of us to come to Him. He
desires that none of us are lost. His very essence is love and mercy.
Our very essence is pride, arrogance, and hatred. We have nothing worthy
within us that makes God want us. He simply loves us.
That is why Jesus Christ came to earth. To show us His love.
To show us how we are to live. Finally to die a horrible death on a
cross in payment for my evil ways, your evil ways, and in fact the evil ways
of the world. He died that all who trust in Him may have life, including
life eternal.
His ways are perfect. He made us. He knows what is best
for us. Trust Him.
Don't judge Christianity based on how it is abused. Many atrocities
have been commited in the name of Christ. Those atrocities do not nullify
the truth of Jesus Christ. His Truth is universal and eternal.
Do this: Pray in ernest for God to reveal Himself to you.
Read the books of "John" and "Romans" in the bible. Pray that God will
give you understanding. Please do this.
There is a peace that surpasses all understanding when one trusts in
Jesus Christ. Perhaps God is reaching out to you through this e-mail.
Please don't just blow this off.
I don't know you but God does. I am praying for you. Give
Him a chance. He is ready to absolutely rock your world!

Wow! I can't believe the images I saw on this site. People who visit the site and find it acceptacle - to you all - the best part of you runs down your mothers leg. You sick fucking racist and anti American.
Dear Sir,
I would like your feedback on the following message, thanks:
We could easily have prevented the September 11 terrorist attacks,
if we did the following :
(1) not got involved with the "Taliban" or "Muhjahadeen" to oust
the Soviet Union from Afghanistan......Osama Bin Laden was encouraged and
"trained" by the US to fight the Soviets and this experience gave Osama the
confidence to later go after the US. Osama Bin Laden himself stated that
the ousting of the Soviet Union was the will of Allah (he did not mention
that without the US, he would not have been able to oust the Soviet Union
from Afghanistan) and this so called "Will of Allah " experience against
the Soviet Union encouraged him and now he could also go
after the US.
(2) not got involved in ousting Saddam Hussein from Kuwait. Saddam Hussein
was anti-religious and ready to sell oil to the West. In fact during the
oil embargo of the seventies when Arab nations did not want to sell oil,
Saddam Hussein sold oil to the west. Saddam ,in the late nineties, through
his officials told Charles Duelfer (special adviser to the CIA) that he wanted
to start a dialogue with the US and wanted to be America's best friend in
the Middle East. If Saddam Hussein was allowed to take over the middle east,
he would have eradicated fundamentalist Islam that breeds terrorism and sold
cheap oil to the US. President Reagan told Saddam Hussein to stop supporting
Palestinian groups in the early eighties and then President Reagan removed
Iraq from the list of state sponsors of terrorism.........this is another
of several examples that Saddam wanted to be our ally.
(3) not setting up bases in Saudi Arabia. Placing our troops in Saudi Arabia
enraged Osama Bin Laden because we were defiling his religion by having
troops on "holy" Saudi soil. THIS IS THE MAIN REASON FOR THE SEPTEMBER
11 ATTACKS.....AMERICAN MILITARY PRESENCE IN SAUDI ARABIA
(4) not sanctioned Iraq......Osama Bin Laden points to the fact, rightly
or wrongly, that our sanctions on Iraq was the cause of half a million Iraqi
children dying
(5) not sold weapons to Israel......Osama Bin Laden points to the fact,
rightly or wrongly, that American made weapons were used by the Israelis
to kill Palestinian men, women and children through collateral damage
(6) reinforced cock pit doors and had air marshalls on every flight, like
Israel did long time ago
Your opinions and critique of my points are greatly valued
so that i can keep improving them. Thanks

Though most Americans would fiercely agree that ‘freedom
of speech’ is one of the cornerstones of Human Rights, I find the article/book
predisposed to take an Anti-American position from the first paragraph.
I find no mention of the other groups, ethnic/religious/national,
who have perpetrated crimes against others; such as the Japanese slaughter
of millions of Chinese nationals, Chinese Communists against millions of
its own citizens, Vietnamese government’s murder of hundreds of thousands
of its own citizens, Cambodia’s ‘garden of skulls’, etc.
I don’t see mention of the murder of the Isreali
Olympic athletes, the kidnapping and murder of Lebanese and Isreali noncombatants/
civilians, or the persecution of non-Muslims and Muslims in pure Muslim countries,
such as Iran. I don’t see mention of North Koreas starvation of millions
of its citizens to maintain a 1,000,000+ armed services while pursuing a
nuclear weapon, or the slaughter/starvation of Somali’s at the hands of fellow
Somali’s, or daily kidnapping/murder of foreigners and citizens in South
America.
Please note that all of these events occurred where
the US had no military presence at the time.
How about these ‘soldiers’ sawing the heads off of
people on film in Iraq, the kidnapping and subsequent execution of Iraqi
police trainees just trying to make a living and ensure the safety of their
fellow citizens, or the truck bombing of the UN headquarters.
Why not discuss the withholding of billions of dinars
by Saddam Hussain, and his government, from the Iraqi people. This theft
of oil revenue and other funds denying the average Iraqi citizen of infrastructure
and basic services improvement essential to the survival of their children.
Why not add that expansion of Iraqs military infrastructure, weapons programs
and Hussains palace building into the conversation regarding the death of
these innocents. While you are discussing the ‘illegal’ and immoral’ war
being waged against these ‘soldiers’ by American ‘cowards’, please don’t
hesitate to point out that these volunteer Americans are now risking their
lives to help the average Iraqi citizen become eligible to say anything they
want, as Ward has done, without immediate arrest, torture and execution.
I don’t think Saddam Hussain or the Taliban would have merely spoken their
discontent with Ward’s opinion of their governments, if he were a citizen
there.
The fact that our pilots flew missions in million
dollar aircraft, militarily superior to the enemy, does not negate the fact
that the pilots were not facing possible death. As a former Marine and one
who grew up in Saudi Arabia, I feel that the actions taken by the government
have not always reflected my own thoughts on the subject. But I do take offense
at being depicted as a coward based solely on the equipment provided. I will
say that the Highway of Death was WAR and WAR is an unpleasant, disgusting,
and hellish experience for anyone to survive. The purpose of war is to win
and just because an enemy is retreating, does not mean they are not dangerous.
The off center assertion, though denied on
this web site by the author, of little Eichmanns at the WTC is a little disguised
claim that American businesses are centers of Nazi-like activities bent on
the elimination of anything non-American/non-Christian. I’m sure that the
number of the proposed ‘Eichmanns’ comprised less than 1% of the total killed
vs the persons listed as ‘collateral damage’ by these ‘soldiers’ and surprised
that Ward disassociated the religious aspect, given the evidence and subsequent
statements by like-minded individuals before and since that day. Self examination
by the American public regarding our overseas activities should be a constant
job, as living in foreign countries most of my life has taught me, but exclusive
declarations like those by Ward are not productive and do a disservice to
the his fellow professors, his department, the University………and his country.

JUST READ MR. CHURCHILL'S ARTICLE, POST 9-11. I AM DUMBFOUNDED, SPEECHLESS.
I DO NOT WISH TO DEBATE, SIMPLY TO ASK, SHOULD YOU OR HE HAVE TOTAL DOMINION
OVER ALL AMERICA, IT'S PEOPLE & RESOURCES, WHAT YOU HAVE US DO, WHAT IN THE
PAST SHOULD WE HAVE DONE? WHAT WOULD THE RESULTS BE? THIS IS A SINCERE
QUESTION. PLEASE RESPOND.
From all that’s happened to Mr. Churchill, or Chief
Crazy as we affectionately refer to him, it looks like all of us self described
right wingers are winning this fight. I for one won’t be happy until all of
these US hating nut cases have 1. Left the country or 2. Drowned themselves
in despair in the ocean of their choice. I think most rational human beings,
in this country anyway, are tired of listening to a bunch of pseudo intellectuals
who really don’t have a clue about the way the world really works. This guy
Churchill deserves to be back on the Rez but he probably wouldn’t last 10
minutes there either.

Looks like Ward Churchill's career is over. U. of Colorado's
board is discussing his employment even as I write this.... Oh
well, he can continue to write his simple-minded articles for the kiddies
at Z-Net, at least. His essays are so cliche-ridden and soooo
juvenile: does his pathetic little story prove another cliche--"publish
or perish"? Or maybe its a little more complicated than that.
F()ck you sand nigger lover and parasite of
USA. You suck cock. DIE.
Thank You........for your courage to say it like it has been, like
it is, and sorrowfully, probably for a while to come. Yet, there is
eventual "what goes around comes around" and at 87 years of age I believe
America will have to face that. My grandfather made a trip to apologize
to the Shoshones from southern Montana when they were moved to Wyoming to
make room for the Crystal Dam near Bozeman. His reality check
came then, not when he homesteaded in good faith. Eventually, reality
check will come to America, but until we have interpreters who can survive
censorship, it will never be understood.
I pray for you and other interpreters.

I understand that professor Ward Churchill is in trouble in Colorado
for his political views which are certainly disconcerting to most Americans.
Thanks to your website I was able to read his essay "Some People
Push Back", On the Justice of Roosting Chickens, and it should be obvious
to even a casual reader why his feet are being held so close to the fire.
There appears to be far less reason or even sanity in his rantings
than one would expect from a professor at a major university. Also,
there is too much of his logic and emotion that smacks of a man who appears
to believe himself a victim. Maybe even paranoia has some application
here. Does Churchill have a history of believing himself and his ideas
to have been shunned by other scholars, educators, publishers, intellectuals,
etc;? I wonder.
Perhaps a year or two away from the campus, hanging out on main street,
or in the mountains, or maybe driving a cab in Denver, just mixing in random
ways with those terrible Americans he tries so hard to despise, is
just the tonic to mellow his hatred somewhat and acquaint him with the common
man whose passion and sacrifice has made this country great. The average
American is certainly not a part of the corrupt and decadent Military Industrial
Complex. When Churchill stops smoking whatever it is he's puffing
on, he will realize that.
In the meantime, this professorl has some explaining to do.
It will take more than the good will of a few dozen sympathetic college
students to get him out of this jam.
He could start by saying, "America, I apologize..."

Kennedyville, Md.
Tonight I was introduced to Prof. Ward Churchill by his interview
on Paula Zahn. I am pleased that he was given the opportunity to exercise
his freedom of speech on CNN, a right that is coming under increasing attack under the
Bush regime. While listening to the introductory set-up piece I wasn't
sure what to think about what he was saying in his essay which at first
struck me in a negative way. However, after hearing him interviewed
by Zahn I warmed up to what he was trying to say and found myself in sympathy
with him and what he was trying to do through his essay, "Some People Push
Back." After listening to his interview I went and Googled to find
his essay at your website so I could read it myself.
It is sad that people react, usually negatively, having only half
listened to what he said and infuse his words with their own limited understanding
rather than responding intelligently and letting the words make them
think and ask some questions.
I would like to get this message of support to Prof. Churchill myself
but do not know his email address and though that perhaps you could forward
it to him for me.
Sincerely,
The Rev. ______ _ ______
Hello! I wanted to let you know that I appreciate the information
that you have been posting about Ward Churchill. I am a graduate of the University
of Colorado (May 2000) and I took at least 4 of Ward's classes. He is
by far the best teacher that I ever had, and I am certain many people share
my sentiments. Besides the fact that he is a dynamic teacher and his subject
matter is fascinating, Ward teaches critical thinking to even the most
blase/stoned/bored student out there.
I am absolutely nauseated by the anger that is being thrown
his way. I cannot believe that the idiot governor of Colorado is suggesting Ward
end his teaching carreer at CU when he is such an effective educator.
It is scary. It is terrifying how pissed and offended people are when it
is clear that they have not even read the book!!! Nor have I, so I just ordered
it from you, but I have read a number of his other books and talked to my
fellow former Ward students for the gist on how "offensive" this
one was. If anyone read his writings with an open mind, they'd have
to say "Yes, this makes sense".
Anyway, I'm mad. I e-mailed CU and Hamilton College because that's
all I could think of to do. I had to write to you as well,
because it feels good to contact someone who appreciates the writing
that Ward has done.
I look forward to getting the book because I feel guilty getting
all fired up about something I haven't even read yet!
Thanks again.
